Critical 10 characters are formed of three main sets of attributes:

Aspects define the main style for your character. Made up of Academic, Social, Physical, Essence, Cunning and Technical. Your score in an aspect will determine the number of D10’s you will roll when attempting a task of that type.
Aptitudes are grouped under aspects. They define a character’s capability within generalised areas of knowledge and skill. For example, within the physical aspect, a character might have an aptitude for melee combat. When attempting any task of that type, the score of an aptitude is added to your highest rolled D10.
Proficiencies are grouped under aptitudes and define a character’s expertise with specific, focused areas of an aptitude. For example, within the melee combat aptitude, a character might have proficiency with swords and blades. When attempting any task of that type, the score in a proficiency is also added as a bonus.
When attempting any task, a result equal to or greater than the target number is considered a success.
TN | Task Difficulty |
---|---|
3 | Easy |
6 | Moderate |
9 | Challenging |
12 | Difficult |
15 | Extreme |
18 | Inconceivable |
Strike Amount is the difference between the player’s task result and the amount by which the target number was beat. The value is used as the base damage for an attack. Therefore, the better the strike, the more damage is caused!
Characters may then be further defined by Niches. There are three types of niches:
Traits include quirks, oddities, personality extremes, background and on-going story events.
Tricks include various knacks, techniques & manoeuvres that are specific, set-piece, procedures. They include abilities such as backstab, card counting and provocation.
Magic & Special Abilities include spells, extraordinary abilities and other supernatural powers.
